3 Scottish Beers to buy this Christmas

18/12/2019

3 Scottish beers to Stock up on for Christmas

Seasonal beers can get a bad reputation...pumpkin spice IPA anyone? Rather than gimmicks, we're keen on darker, richer beers for the winter months.

Our team love nothing more than cosying  up on a winter evening to share a bottle or two of warming beers.

Here are three we'll be stocking up on.

Barney's Beer - Ol'Seamus

Our friends at Barney’s brew in the old horse stables at Summerhall. Their first ever Scotch Ale only went and picked up an award on its first outing.

Scotland's traditional beer style is malty and moreish. A crowd pleaser indeed and named after Barney's first brewery dog.

You'll find Ol' Seamus at Great Grog and served on their brewery tours. Why not pick up a few bottles and gift a tour.

Tempest - All the Leaves are Brown

Based in Tweedbank, Tempest produce some of our favourite beers. A few years ago they brought us the lick lippingly good "All the Leaves are Brown." This year it's back but only after spending 6 months ageing in oak barrels. Perfect for liquid dessert!

You can pick up this beer at Bottle Baron. Fancy visiting Tempest? You can hop on our brand new Borders day trip.

Cross Borders - Heavy

What could be more autumnal than a chilly November night in a cosy pub, your beer of choice? A modern take on the classic Scottish 80/-. With its smooth caramel flavouring and malty tasting notes this beer is certain to warm you up and will go down a treat with your Christmas lunch.

Cross Borders are regularly on the sampling table on our Edinburgh tours and you can head out to their taproom to drink in the brewery. It's just one stop on the train out of Edinburgh.

They are open Friday and Saturday until late the weekend before Christmas.
